HERE ARE SOME GUIDELINES TO HELP YOU GET STARTED
  • Here are general definitions to help you find the best tone for your letter:
    • ALLOGRAFT – a tissue graft from a donor of the same species as the recipient but not genetically identical.
    • DECEASED DONOR – those who donate their organs and/or tissue after they have died. Tissues include bone, skin, and tendons.
  • Use simple language.
  • Do not include identifying information about yourself in the letter as, throughout the process, both parties must remain anonymous until both parties have signed authorizations to disclose personal information. You may include only the first names of your family members. Consider omitting any religious comments, since the religion of the donor family is unknown.
THE CORRESPONDENCE PROCESS

Once submitted, your letter will be reviewed by donor partners before being shared with the donor family. VIVEX and its donor partners have privacy policies in place to make sure everyone is sensitively supported throughout this communication process. This policy prohibits the following information from being shared in recipient correspondence:

  • Your full name
  • Your mailing address, city, phone number, and email address
  • Your physician’s name
  • The name or location of the hospital where you received the allograft

If any such information is included in your letter, our family services team will edit the letter prior to sending it to your donor family. Should we have questions about the content of your letter, the family services team will contact you directly.
